The Albanian-American Development Foundation (AADF) is committed to advancing sustainable development in Albania. Established as a non-profit in 2009 with support from USAID and the U.S. government, AADF aims to create opportunities and empower communities by investing in key areas like education, leadership, entrepreneurship, cultural heritage, and eco-tourism.

From revitalizing historic sites to fostering innovation, empowering local professionals, and creating entrepreneurial opportunities, AADF’s work is defined by a deep commitment to Albania’s social and economic growth. Operating exclusively in Albania, AADF is governed by a Board of Trustees.

Research Expertise from the Academic Diaspora

In 2021, the Albanian-American Development Foundation (AADF), in partnership with the Institute of International Education (IIE), launched the Albanian Diaspora Fellowship Program, known as the Research Expertise from the Academic Diaspora (READ) Program.

READ is a seven-year initiative designed to link Higher Education Institutions (HEIs) in Albania with the Albanian scientific diaspora and their academic institutions. This program aligns with AADF’s strategic priorities in education, particularly in strengthening the higher education system.

Given the sporadic nature of previous diaspora engagement efforts, AADF will take a leading role in creating a well-organized framework to channel the contributions of the scientific diaspora for the benefit of Albanian HEIs.
